If I got the script ready—hopefully soon—I'll give you notive again. Best, Rainer. That's even better! Thank you, "b"! Should we need to write scrips for this? I do not have the ability nor the inclination to put right something that should be correct 'out of the box'. I see with interest that on another part of the community site Sony are asking us to be 'inspired'!
What's the point. Nobody at Sony reads this stuff anyway! Of course we shouldn't! I have made bad experiences waiting for bug fixes in the past, e. Update on this And suggested I use 'bulkrenameutility' to change the name. So they've rejected the concept of doing what many of their users want and have been asking for.
This suggests four things to me: - they didn't really understand the problem. For over half a year they suggested 'fixes' that didn't address the actual problem. Replacing them with new ones costs more but that looks like it may be their priority. This is surprising and quite poor. And the fact that they know a product which can do it I used to work in software development in large organisations - not a developer but influenced the development programs - and this change according to my experience decades long, sadly is not major and unlikely to be horrendously difficult.
So it looks to me like it's more a question of lacking the will to do it rather than the ability. Shame on you Sony - there are many user review sites out there, and the opinion of your dissatisfied customers does go into them. Well, that seems to be that then! Does anyone know the address of Mr Sony. Perhaps we could e-mail him!.
It seems incredible that no one at Sony can get to grips with this or even understand what the problem is. It seems randers you have just about as much as anybody could to sort this. Well done. I have given up and now take out the card and import directly into ACDSee, via a card reader. Brilliant and no trouble whatsoever.
I recommend the programme and this method to everybody. Thanks randers for the effort you've clearly put into this and thanks too for the update. This issue really has steered me firmly away from the brand. That is not a solution. Please read some of the earlier posts in this thread before contributng.
When I realized there was a problem, I already had a lot of files mislabeled by the software. After I got through relabeling them, I rename every file as soon as it is created when I upload. If Sony is aware of the problem but can't or won't fix it, they should include a warning to new users so they will know to manually rename the files each time they upload so as to avoid having to figure out how to rename them all later. It is not possible to set the date format specific for the import folders inside PlayMemories Home.
However you can change the global settings in Windows control panel language and regional settings , so that the imported folders will have YYYY. DD format, and will show up chronologically in the PlayMemories folder view. See attached screen shots. And as I said in one of mine "It's a crude workaround that causes more problems than it fixes". I can work around it by renaming the folders, but it's extra work that I have to do each time I import something.
I bought my camcorder for Christmas and discovered this "feature" just yesterday. I consider the software part of the whole product - otherwise, how am I supposed to get my video files into the computer? I am disappointed that Sony isn't interested in satisfied customers. This forum thread was opened in and will reach its fourth year in Perhaps by keeping it alive we can convince somebody at Sony that folder names are important, and customer satisfaction shouldn't be an afterthought. I can't believe how this issue has been kicked down the road by Sony for so long!
I'm about to replace my glitchy TV with a nice new shiny 4k smart Internet job. Looking at the minimal software support for the official Sony photo application I'm going for other manufacturers. Sad such a obvious change to the official software is totally ignored! I have this problem as well and I contacted Microsoft first. The chat rep advised I should ask my camera mftr and download the lates software driver. I gave this recommendation some consideration but I looked over to the Sony Community first.
This is not an isolated problem addressed by the Sony Software. So here I am doing a search and I find this question which matches mine. This is not really a Sony problem but somehow, it should be a problem addressed by Microsoft. Or, will someone at Sony please advise how to lock down my pic data so it doesn't get changed in the transfer.
This problem drives me nuts because I store my pics in folders by the Date Created. I never had this problem when I use to transfer my Kodak pics to my computer. Date Created always remained the same. You can sort the pictures to be saved with the date they were taken by changing the Import settings on PlayMemories Home. To change this, pleas open the program and click the Tools tab.
Open the Settings tab and click on Import. Change the setting to "Sort imported media files into folders by date taken". Restart the software before importing the files to your computer. As for the previous;y imported files with the folder named after the date they were imported, you can change this by opening your pictures folder and renaming them. The date when the pictures are taken can be found on the properties of the files.
The change will reflect on the software as well. If my post answers your question, please mark it as "Accept as Solution". Hi Mitch, it is nice to see you have solved the problem which is off topic for this string.
It would also be nice to see the topic problem solved, that is, that the software will automatically name the folders in the format yyyy-mm-dd so they will be in order in the folder tree. Thanks MitchC but that doesn't deal with the problem this topic's about. Hi All, The date setting on PlayMemories Home only reflect the setting on the camera that you're using. To view the files starting with the year YY-MM-DD , please change the date and time setting in the camera to the same format. The exif data will reflect these information and the imported folders will also be named either on the date the files are taken or when they were imported, depending on the Import setting of PlayMemories Home.
Please check my previous post as to how to change how the folders are named. Has anybody tried this? I would be interested to know, because my camera is already set to that format. Doesn't work for me, MitchC.
So I'm sorry but your solution doesn't work please try it for yourself MitchC. If required I can send you screen shots of the problem. It results in photos taken years apart being filed next to each other because they were all taken on e. Think about it - do you look for your photos taken 'on that trip last summer' or even taken last week and expect to see them all together or for anything you took on 'a 6th day of the month'? It's the former. Could you follow this up Mitch and try to make someone aware that this sequencing is just plain wrong and abnormal.
The issue is not closed even though one problem was solved as that was off-topic. Since This really can't be so difficult Just checked the advice recently given and no this solution is not correct for me either. The import function does not use the EXIF picture information when it creates the folders. As posted before by others it still uses the system wide short date format of the PC!
Really Sony developers won't acknowledge this as a PlayMemories software issue? Great picture link of how the Import settings screen should actually look like junogoose! Hi Mitch, I changed the date format on the camera to y-m-d as you suggested.
Then I imported the media into PlayMemories. The folders created were still m-d-y. If there was a setting in the Playmemories home, as there is on the camera, that would be great. I have given up on importing that way now. Everything falls into place perfectly!! It is intersting to note something, which i think reflects sony's attitude to customers I answered in the most negative way for each question and the the final screen just said 'thank you'. Wouldn't you want to know why someone was 'completely disatisfied' with everything here?
No reason was asked for! Still, they don't read it anyway! Thanks MitchC for feeding it on to the relevant people. Sorry but my question hasn't been answered and therefore the post should not be labelled as "solved". I'd be grateful if it stopped showing it as solved - thanks. Hi Mitch, thanks for the picture, I can't figure out why it works for you and not me.
Hi mitch are you manually renaming the photo folder? Hi All, I have edited my previous reply to this thread. Please refer to it for the steps I did to test the troubleshooting guide I previously gave. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mitch.
Mitch, I appreciate the response. You used the windows file manager to import the files. I encountered difficulties replicating your workaround, as I am sure others will too, due to: My OS is not the same as yours I am using Windows 10 ; my computer recognizes my camera as a disk; my computer created folders yyyy-mm, not yyy-mm-dd. I think what we are all hoping for is that SONY will add an option to create yyyy-mm-dd from the import files function of the PMHome sodtware, not ask us to use the file import features of our OS.
Am I asking too much? I have the same experience as Polanve, MitchC. I'm on Windows 10, it does not give that option. So please could this thread be changed back from 'Solved', as it isn't yet solved?

I just discovered the same I deleted them all but I need to turn off this unwanted feature or will uninstall the PMH software. Uninstalling this new version and reverting to the old. I also have adobe's lightroom and only use sony's product to import because adobe doesnt import gps correctly. I've removed the new version and reinstalled the old for only the import function. I'm curious about why I need. Win Media Player plays. I just uninstalled PMH because of the. I just don't think Sony's strength is in writing software. I do like my Sony NEX camera, though I opened a ticket with Sony on this issue see below.
There appears to be no resolution. The new version requires modd files for ALL jpegs and movie files. Thats a show stopper for me and I will not upgrade or use the online function anymore. The old version I have running now v2. I understand that you want to know if there is an option to stop modd files from being created in the PlayMemories Home software.
There is no option on the installation of PlayMemories Home PMH software that would disable the generation of modd files. Actually, it is advisable not to delete an modd file because it is essential for the certain functions of PMH to properly work. It will automatically be generated in the software to serve as the image database file.
It maintains the thumbnail icons for the pictures, GPS information, edit and the like. On another note, those modd files can be hidden by following the steps below: 1. Go to [Computer]. Select [Tools] then [Folder Options].
Click on the [View] tab. Under [Hidden Files and Folders], select [Do not show hidden files and folders]. Thank you for understanding. The Sony Email Response Team C4Q8 Mary This message and any attachments are solely for the use of intended recipients and may contain confidential information.
